Mohan, what an insightful perspective! Every engineer worth his salt probably thinks through cooking in the same way though one may be unaware of it. The Gantt chart reference was amusing. I must say though that attractiveness is a quality that is easy to miss out on. I have similar views on one's approach to music and playing an instrument. The key, after developing an optimized mechanical way of playing an instrument, is creativity and improvisation - qualities that delight an audience and create a unique little post it in their mind.

Dr Sawhney,
I like your approach to cooking in an efficient manner. There is something striking about your approach, you are cautiously innovative by temperament.

Interesting perspective. Personally I have always drawn a parallel between cooking and Computer Science, which is my background. How, you might ask? Well, in cooking, you actually start with nothing - an empty bench top - and you produce something that you are exceptionally proud of. So too in computing - you start with an empty screen, and end up with a program or suite of programs that you too are very proud of.

In cooking, the end outcome largely is a result of your skill. It will look good, and taste great if you are skilled artisan. Similarly in computing, the outcome will be elegant and error free depending on your skill, and pretty much your skill alone.

In cooking, you can select from a bunch of ingredients - again, you choose which ones. So too in computer science- the language and tools are pretty much your choice.

It's all about creativity - cooking and computing - using your creative juices to produce something - from nothing. And it will is as special and as rewarding as YOU make it.
